This is just a picture of the deck the way it looks now.
7/14/2010
String lines... I believe that this is the way it's been done for 3,000 years.
7/14/2010
And here we have 3 18" x 18" forms.
7/14/2010
That feels like a full days work to me.
7/15/2010
First installment of deck materials.
7/16/2010
There, that was easy!
7/17/2010
New toy.
\7/17/2010
Hail today.
7/18/2010
These form went in a Little faster
7/18/2010
Concrete poured - this is another profession I'm pretty sure I want to avoid.
7/21/2010
Posts are ready. Soon there will be some dramatic changes.
7/22/2010
There's no turning back now.
7/22/2010
I'm finding a lot of rotten wood behind the ledger boards.
7/23/2010
That's all of the old deck that's coming down.
7/23/2010
But there's so much rot. This is depressing.
7/23/2010
And behind the ledger board the outside end of the 2x10 is completely gone.
7/24/2010
I need to make some drop siding out of a pressure treated 1 x 8. This is like the molding for the bookcase.
7/24/2010
Here we have the finished tongue and groove boards.
7/24/2010
After several rain delays the posts are finally set and the band joists have been bolted to them.
7/25/2010
Here we are cutting a bunch of joists to the same length.
7/25/2010
I'm short a few hangers.
7/25/2010
The framing is almost done.
7/26/2010
This looks just like yesterday doesn't it? Now everything is nailed in and the diagonals are within 1/8".
7/28/2010
The framing is finally done. I did end up replacing the joists in front of the door.
7/28/2010
The deck boards aren't nailed in yet, they're just laying there.
7/30/2010
This is putting a 3/8" radius on the ends of the deck boards.
7/30/2010
The posts and top railing are on now. I feel much safer.
8/1/2010
This is the soffit hole I need to fill. Notice the shiplap style profile.
8/1/2010
This is trying to match the old profile.
8/1/2010
It turn out pretty good (if I do say so myself).
8/2/2010
This is the corner section (which had all that rot) after applying expanding foam.
8/2/23010
And this was a tricky transition deck board.
8/4/2010
This is the repaired soffit...
8/4/2010
And this is the new corner trim. The rotted wood has all been replaced.
8/4/2010
I also did one of the angle braces today.
8/5/2010
Rob and his crew laying deck boards.
8/6/2010
Deck boards are down...
8/6/2010
And the angle braces are up.
8/7/2010
Routing out the grooves for the lower railing.
8/7/2010
Ta-da!
8/16/2010
Redirecting the power cable from the light on the tree stump to ...
8/16/2010
... the lights on the front of the deck.
8/17/2010
When this gets painted the wire should be hard to see.
8/17/2010
The new lights are on the same timer as the old tree lamp.
8/19/2010
Here today.
8/20/2010
Gone tomorrow.
